"Keep The Feast"

John Vega

The phrase "keep the feast" is in the bible 7 times. Six times in the Scripture in the old testament where it is all too obvious that Yahuvah is commanding the children of Israel to "KEEP THE FEAST". Then why is it that in the new testament, when the exact same phrase is used we are supposed to believe that the term "keep the feast" means "DON'T keep the feast"? It is ridiculous to believe this is the proper interpretation of Scripture and yet this is exactly what the vast majority of Seventh-day Adventist scholars and televangelists teach.

Why not stick with the obvious meaning of the phrase "keep the feast" and actually "keep the feast" both physically and spiritually like Jesus and the Apostles did before and after the cross?

7 Passages in Scripture that use
the phrase "keep the feast"
How the vast majority of Seventh-day Adventist scholars and televangelists interpret the phrase
"KEEP THE FEAST"
1
Thou shalt KEEP THE FEAST of unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month Abib; for in it thou camest out from Egypt: and none shall appear before me empty:)
Exodus 23:15
keep the feast
2
And thou shalt KEEP THE FEAST of weeks unto the LORD thy God with a tribute of a freewill offering of thine hand, which thou shalt give [unto the LORD thy God], according as the LORD thy God hath blessed thee: Deuteronomy 16:10
keep the feast
3
And there assembled at Jerusalem much people to KEEP THE FEAST of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great congregation. 2 Chronicles 30:13
keep the feast
4
And it shall come to pass, [that] every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to KEEP THE FEAST of tabernacles. Zechariah 14:16
keep the feast
5
And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that [have] no [rain]; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to KEEP THE FEAST of tabernacles. Zech 14:18
keep the feast
6
This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to KEEP THE FEAST of tabernacles. Zech14:19
keep the feast
7
Therefore let us KEEP THE FEAST, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened [bread] of sincerity and truth. 1 Corinthians 5:8
DON'T keep the feast

In 1Corinthians 5:8 Paul was encouraging the Corinthians to keep the feast of unleavened bread but not while fornicating with one's own stepmother. Believers in the Messiah should never behave worse than the heathens during any season of the year but especially during the feast of unleavened bread!!! We should celebrate the feast of unleavened bread with "clean hands and a pure heart." Psalms 24:4

""According to the SDA Bible Commentary, the tensing of the Greek word translated "keep" in the phrase, "Therefore let us keep the feast," is "continue keeping." (S.D.A. Bible Commentary, vol. 6, page 691) Therefore, the phrase should read, "Therefore let us continue keeping the feast [of Unleavened Bread]." The idea of the "continuation" of keeping the Feast of Unleavened Bread asserts that there was an already existing observance of the Feast of Unleavened Bread which is to "continue.""Stephen W. Kraner

After His Resurrection Yahushua kept the feast of unleavened bread and blessed the activity. Why should we do any different?

"But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed [it], and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight." Luke 24:29-31

"He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked." 1 John 2:6

We must remember Yahushua never told the Pharisees to stop being pharisees. He just wanted them to obey all of Moses law and not just the smaller issues like tithing their herb garden.

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former."

What my fellow Seventh-day Adventists seem to conveniently forget is that the apostle Paul (their favorite "anti feast day teacher") taught us very clearly that we should keep the feast days.

"Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened [bread] of sincerity and truth."1 Cor 5:8

"And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days." Acts 20:6

"At Philippi Paul tarried to keep the Passover. Only Luke remained with him, the other members of the company passing on to Troas to await him there. The Philippians were the most loving and truehearted of the apostle's converts, and during the eight days of the feast he enjoyed peaceful and happy communion with them." {AA 390.4}

After Paul kept the feast of unleavened bread with his Gentile Philippian converts he wrote them and told them to continue to follow his example.

"Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you." Phil 4:9

My Fellow Adventists also seem to conveniently overlook the fact that the Apostle Paul told us in unambiguous words that the Jews are ADVANTAGED in EVERY way.

"What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit [is there] of circumcision? Much EVERY way: CHIEFLY, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God." Romans 3:1-2

When I listen to the various Seventh-day Adventist televangelists speak in general it sounds like they read Paul to say that the Jews are DISADVANTAGED in EVERY way and PRIMARY becuase they keep the feast days. When in reality, the feast days are what gives the Jew the advantage Paul is talking about because the feast days allow the Jew to spend more time with God and this is why Satan hates it when God's true, remnant people celebrate the feast days and he uses the leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist corporate structure to shame us for doing so.
